Records for the archdiocese of York, which include the wills admitted to probate for most of Yorkshire from the middle ages to 1858 are held at the Borthwick Institute - see below for contact details

Many estate and family collections for Yorkshire are held at the Yorkshire Archaeological Society which operates in close conjunction with the West Yorkshire Archive Service - see below for contact details

   
   
 

NORTH YORKSHIRE:

Records for the city of York are held at the York City Archives

Records for the area covered by the boroughs of Middlesborough and Redcar & Cleveland are held at the Teesside Archives

Records for the rest of the North Riding of Yorkshire are held at the North Yorkshire County Record Office

   
   
 

EAST YORKSHIRE:

Records for the East Riding of Yorkshire (apart from Hull) are held at the East Riding of Yorkshire Archives

Records for the city of Hull are held at the Hull City Archives

   
   
 

SOUTH YORKSHIRE:

Records for the Barnsley district are held at the Barnsley Archives

Records for the Doncaster district are held at the Doncaster Archives

Records for the Rotherham district are held at the Rotherham Archives

    Additionally the microfilm room (and therefore accesss to films of parish records, BTs and wills) is open during term time until midnight on Monday to Thursday, until 9 pm on Friday and from 10 am to 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday. These are the opening times for the University Library which is also open for more limited hours during vacations.
