In 1974 the former county of Westmoreland was incorporated within the current county of Cumbria (which also includes the former county of Cumberland, the Furness area of Lancashire and the Yorkshire parish of Sedbergh) - the Kendal Record Office holds the archives for the former county of Westmoreland and the parish of Sedbergh - it is managed by the Cumbria Archive Service
